Each year the cost of running the Festival substantially exceeds our ticket revenue.
This year, we have increased the fees for the long standing Mentors of the Festival Orchestra, whose energy, commitment and love of their craft are the beating heart of this unique scheme. We have also increased the bursary for student players in response to the increase in living costs. And we have introduced £10 tickets to all evening performances as part of our continued drive to make the Festival more accessible.
We could not run these schemes or maintain the high standard of performers of the Festival itself without the generosity of our Sponsors, Patrons and Friends. Your support is much needed and much appreciated. Thank you.

The idea of creating the ‘Chipping Campden Festival Academy’ orchestra in 2008 was to give talented young musicians from the UK’s conservatoires, or recent graduates, an opportunity to work alongside the finest professional musicians. The project has grown each year and is now recognised as one of the leading ‘side by side’ training orchestra in the UK. To ensure the highest standards of quality the Academy orchestra comprises 50% experienced orchestral musicians and 50% of ‘Academy’ trainees. Each string, woodwind, and brass ‘desk’ seats one professional and one ‘Academy’ trainee together. In three concerts during the festival the CCFAO perform with soloists of international standing and although these concerts normally sell out, the cost of presenting them greatly exceeds the box office take. Typically, we lose about £25,000 on these three concerts so, even with the generous support of the Orchestra’s main sponsor we still have to provide a substantial subsidy. Whilst the festival has always been happy to take on this commitment, the more financially viable we can make the orchestra in the future, the more funds we will have to expand our educational work into other areas.
In 2014 we launched the ‘sponsor a chair’ scheme to help raise funds for this project.
Suggested donations to sponsor are:
Or you can become a ‘Friend of the Academy Orchestra’ for a minimum donation of £100.
All Orchestra supporters are invited to the ‘Patrons and Friends’ Champagne reception.
We appreciate that not everyone is in a position to join the Patrons or Friends schemes but anything you feel able to donate will make a difference to our ability to continue presenting concerts of the highest standard and, equally importantly, to run our ever growing educational programme.
If you would like to make any donation to the Festival however large or small, please contact jessica May, email jessica@campdenmusicfestival.com for more details.
I love everything about the Chipping Campden Festival! I love the village itself - surely one of the most beautiful in England; I love the church, with its serene atmosphere and beautiful acoustics; I love the way the audience listens with noiseless concentration, to every note one plays; and I love the way we musicians are treated by the administration of the festival, which seems to anticipate our every need, whim or desire. Playing at the festival is one of the highlights of my musical life. Thank you so much to Charlie Bennett and his merry team for all their amazing hard work!
The surroundings and atmosphere in Chipping Campden is pure magic. Combining the unique concert venue with a wonderful audience, which was surely developed and nurtured with great care, makes for a unique concert experience both for the performers and the audience. It is definitely one of the dates we are most looking forward to on our season calendar.
The spacious beauty and splendid acoustic of St. James Church in Chipping Campden create an ideal atmosphere for making music. Playing there for the warm and receptive audiences has been among the highlights of my musical life.
The Chipping Campden Festival is one of the best stops on the UK concert scene. Fabulous setting, a wonderful array of world-class musicians, and real artistic integrity and vision on the part of Charlie Bennett: it’s a joy to perform and attend concerts there.
The Chipping Campden Music Festival provides an exquisite venue of intimacy amid an incomparable historical setting. It was heartwarming to communicate with such a receptive audience and I congratulate you heartily for your deft programming and personal warmth. Every artist fortunate enough to be invited to perform at the Festival will take indelible memories from church, town, inhabitants, and visiting audience members.
