Dvořák’s Cello Concerto is widely considered one his greatest compositions and in many opinions, the very best cello concerto ever written.
Steven Isserlis, who returns to the 2025 Festival to perform with the Academy Orchestra says: “It’s simply a masterpiece. It has everything: heroism, excitement, gorgeous melodies, joie de vivre, reflection, tragedy and a profoundly personal narrative.”
Steven’s unforgettable performances of both the Schumann and Elgar cello concertos with the Festival Academy Orchestra heightens the anticipation for this concert. The orchestra complete the programme for the first of their 3 concerts with a rarely performed Mozart overture and Beethoven’s effervescent first symphony.
